Home page and browser tabs (?) – To get the most out of iCrumz, set your home page to iCrumz.com and configure your browser to go to iCrumz.com when you open a new tab. This gives you the most convenient access to your iCrumz bookmarks.
Your account – iCrumz accounts are free
Creating an account (?) – If you have a Google account (gmail, etc) or a Facebook account, you can create an iCrumz account using those sign-in buttons on iCrumz’ home page. After clicking one of these buttons, you will be asked for permission to use those logins for iCrumz. If you prefer to create an iCrumz account without using Facebook or Google logins, enter your email address in the “Email” field and click the “Get my password” button. A password will be emailed to you, which you can change in the “Settings” menu once you are logged in.
Forgot your password (?) – If you are not logged out then log out. Enter your email address in the “Email” field and click the “Get my password” button. A password will be emailed to you, which you can change in the “Settings” menu once you are logged in.
Changing your password (?) – Log in and select the “Change password” item in the “Settings” menu.
Changing your email address (?) – This feature is coming soon.
Deleting your account (?) – This feature is coming soon.
Bookmark management – Creating, editing and rearranging bookmarks, folders and subfolders, etc.
Creating a bookmark (?) – Make sure you have bookmarked in your browser the “+iCrumz” item from the footer of the iCrumz website. Most people do this by simply dragging the +iCrumz item from the footer to their browser’s bookmarks bar. When you are on a webpage that you want to bookmark, click the +iCrumz item that you just copied to your bookmarks bar. This will take you to a create-bookmark screen. Most of the info will already be filled in for you (this info is taken from the webpage itself) but can be edited. Select a folder (or subfolder) from the “Folders” list at the bottom of the screen or type the name of a new folder in the “Folder” field.
Editing a bookmark (?) – Click the icon to the left of any bookmark to edit the bookmark.
Adding back a deleted bookmark (?) – The “Changes” menu lists all the bookmarks you’ve deleted (and added). Click on the bookmark you’d like to add back, which will take you to that webpage, and then re-bookmark it. You will have to redo any customizations you’ve made to the bookmark title, keywords and description.
Creating folders and subfolders (?) – When creating a bookmark, in the Folder field simply type in a new folder name that does not yet exist. On your iCrumz page, you’ll see the new folder and its bookmark(s) on the top-left of your other bookmarks. The folder name will be in green signifying that this is a new folder and prompting you to decide where to drag the folder to organize it among your other bookmark folders (the folder name will remain green until you drag the folder to its new location). To create a subfolder (a folder that is nested inside of another folder or subfolder), enter a “/” between the parent and child folder name. For example, if you enter “Media/Funny” in the Folder field, this will create the subfolder “Funny” in the “Media” folder.
Editing folder and subfolder names (?) – Click the icon to the left of any bookmark in the folder or subfolder (to go to the edit screen) and change the folder or subfolder name. This will change the folder or subfolder name for all the bookmarks in that folder or subfolder.
Deleting folders and subfolders (?) – If you move and/or delete all of the bookmarks from a folder of subfolder, that folder of subfolder will automatically be deleted. (We are working on adding the ability to delete a folder or subfolder and all of its bookmarks at once.)
Keywords and Description fields (?) – When first bookmarking a webpage, the Keywords and Description fields are pre-populated with content taken from Keywords and Description HTML meta tags in the webpage itself (if the webpage has content in these meta tags). You can edit these fields.
Moving bookmarks, folders and subfolders (?) – Click and drag any bookmark, folder of subfolder to move it within its own folder/subfolder or to any other folder or subfolder.
Creating and removing bookmark columns (?) – If you drag any folder or subfolder beyond the furthest-right or furthest-left column, a new column will be created. If you move all of the folders out of a column, that column will be removed. You may have up to 11 columns.
Sharing – iCrumz can be used to share webpages with others via email and Facebook
Sharing setup (?) – Make sure you have bookmarked in your browser the “Share via iCrumz” item from the footer of the iCrumz website. Most people do this by simply dragging the Share via iCrumz item from the footer to their browser’s bookmarks bar.
Sharing via email or Facebook (?) – When you are on a webpage that you want to share, click the Share via iCrumz item that you just copied to your bookmarks bar. This will take you to a share-bookmark screen. Most of the info will already be filled in for you (this info is taken from the webpage itself) but can be edited.
To share via email, enter one or more email addresses in the “To” field (multiple email addresses should be separated with a space or comma) and click the “Send” button.
To share via Facebook, click the “Share on Facebook” text button just below the “Send” button, which will open a window for completing your Facebook share.
Settings menu – Various settings for your iCrumz bookmarks page
Use default font (?) – Switches between your browser’s default font and iCrumz’ font.
Do not show favicons (?) – Changes the icon to the left of each bookmark to a generic bookmark icon; otherwise the bookmarked website’s custom icon (if any), known as a “favicon,” is used. You can toggle between having this setting checked or not (don’t worry, we’ll save all your bookmarks’ custom favicons in our database in case you want to switch back). If you have a slow Internet connection, not showing favicons will speed up the page load time quite a bit.
Open links in new window (?) – If checked, bookmarked pages will open in a new browser window or tab (depending on your browser’s settings). Otherwise bookmarked pages will open in the same window as your iCrumz page.
Wrap long link titles (?) – If checked, will wrap long bookmark titles to multiple lines as needed to display the full bookmark title. Otherwise long bookmark titles will be truncated as needed at the right edge of the bookmark column.
Force one column layout (?) – Displays all your bookmarks in a single column on the left. This is particularly useful for people accessing iCrumz from a mobile phone. Don’t worry, your original multiple-column layout will be preserved for when you want to switch back to a multi-column layout. (FYI – we are working on a mobile phone-specific website at m.iCrumz.com and native mobile apps for at least iOS (iPhone, iPad and iPod), Android and Blackberry. Depending on user demand, and how the following smartphone platforms develop, we may also build native apps for webOS (formerly Palm), Symbian and Windows Phone (formerly Windows Mobile).
Change password (?) – Duh!
Import Bookmarks from HTML (?) – Enables you to import into your iCrumz account bookmarks from a standard bookmarks export file. All browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, etc) enable you to export your bookmarks from their browser into this standard bookmarks export file format. To import bookmarks from a browser, first export your bookmarks from that browser and note where you saved the export file. Select the “Import Bookmarks from HTML” item from the Settings menu in iCrumz and navigate to the saved export file to complete the import.
Export Bookmarks to HTML (?) – Exports your iCrumz bookmarks into the standard bookmarks export file format, which you can use to import into the bookmarks of your browser and/or another bookmarking platform.
Changes menu (?) – Lists all the bookmarks you’ve added and deleted. We are working to add a feature to be able to permanently remove items from this list.
Logout menu (?) – Double duh!
Google search field and text button (?) – Enter something you want to search for into the Search field to the left of the Google text button and hit your Enter/Return key on your keyboard or click on the Google text button to conduct a Google search. This will return the same search results as if you had conducted your search at Google.com.
Troubleshooting
Where are my bookmarks? – Your account is identified by your email address. If you log in using a different email address or a different method (i.e., Google or Facebook login) from the one where your missing bookmarks are you won’t have access to the bookmarks from your original account. If you log in using the original method or email address you will see your original bookmarks. To consolidate your bookmarks from multiple iCrumz accounts, first export the bookmarks from the old account(s) and import them into the new account.
